This role may also involve supporting forging and welding tasks as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering and hands-on experience with CNC machining, ensuring efficient production while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and program CNC lathe machines and Vertical Milling Center (VMC) to fabricate parts according to blueprints, specifications, and production schedules.
- Perform setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of CNC equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and CAD/CAM files to execute precise machining operations.
- Conduct routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs to prevent breakdowns.
- Inspect finished products using measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to verify dimensions, tolerances, and quality compliance.
- Assist with forging and welding tasks as required, including material preparation, basic welding operations, and post-processing.
- Collaborate with the production team to optimize workflows, reduce wastage, and improve operational efficiency.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with company health and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, machine logs, and inventory of tools and materials.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as identifying process enhancements or training junior staff.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least 1-2 years of practical experience in CNC machining; candidates with entry-level knowledge and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
- Proven hands-on experience operating CNC lathes and milling machines; familiarity with VMC is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in CNC programming software (e.g., G-code, Mastercam, or similar).
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work in shifts if required and adhere to production deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in CNC operation or related vocational training (e.g., from NITA or equivalent).
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in metal fabrication.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Basic knowledge of forging and welding process will be an added advantage.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and machine interfacing.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and handle heavy materials.
What We Offer:
- KES 25,000 per month.
- Opportunities for professional development and training in advanced machining techniques.
- Comprehensive benefits package, WIBA/GPA insurance, and paid leave.
