Job Summary:

Leads partner coordination, external communication, and event planning and facilitation functions (online and in person) for family planning (FP) product introduction activities, with a core focus on building robust external relationships with key health systems stakeholders, supporting awareness and buy-in for FP product introduction, and facilitating global-level access to a comprehensive FP method mix. The TO II will ideally be a clear, accessible and enthusiastic family planning communicator through both digital platforms (newsletters, webinars, social media) and in-person meetings and events. This position is globally oriented, creating resources for and collaborating with external partners in settings across Africa, Asia, and Latin America as well as US and UK-based colleagues.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Serve as primary coordinator and facilitator of global NGO working group focused on public sector introduction of the hormonal IUD. Conceptualize, schedule, develop slides and supplementary resources, and facilitate quarterly virtual working group meetings and annual hybrid meetings. Develop and execute activities to expand engaged working group membership. Conceptualize, write, and distribute hormonal IUD newsletter to global audience. Develop and execute activities to expand newsletter audience. Review and provide detailed feedback on hormonal IUD introduction tools and resources. Support resource development as needed. Conceptualize, plan, and facilitate digital learning opportunities (webinars, trainings, closed sessions) for global audiences focused on FP product introduction. Serve as primary point of contact for external implementing organizations seeking technical assistance for FP product introduction programs, triaging or responding to questions, providing resources, or developing new resources to respond to program needs. Develop and execute an external in-person outreach strategy, mapping appropriate conferences, meetings, and events to promote FP product introduction aims and resources, managing logistics (bookings, payments, shipping, etc.) for sponsorships, exhibition booths, or meeting presentations, and developing new physical and digital products (handouts, presentation slides, webpages) to support successful outreach. Participate in routine internal and external outreach and landscaping activities intended to track product introduction status in key geographies. Coordinate national stakeholders in selected African markets and support key Ministry of Health personnel to prepare for the launch of a novel contraceptive method, a longer-acting injectable.  Activities may include supporting quantification exercises, guidelines, and health information systems updates, engagement with national medicines regulatory bodies, and developing training and introduction plans.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, practices, strategies, and techniques of health promotion and education, public health communication, and coalition building at a global level.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
  • Advanced ability to maintain collaborative working relations with internal and external stakeholder groups, including Ministry of Health contacts.
  • Moderate technical knowledge of family planning programs and health systems in East Africa. Basic technical knowledge of the same in health contexts in West and Southern Africa. Familiarity with family planning products and services and comfort with promotion of and discussion about long-acting family planning methods.
  • Advanced skill in development of digital and print resources for community building and health communication, including basic graphic design, advanced presentation development and formatting, and ability to align with a brand standard for materials and presentations.
  • Moderate knowledge of website development and social marketing principles, practices, and techniques for developing audience-access strategy
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in assigned areas.
  • Able to write and speak English at a fluent level.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its international equivalent in public or community health, communications and social marketing, health education or promotion, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in the above fields.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of professional experience in health communications or other relevant field. Strong preference for candidates with direct professional experience in communication for family planning or contraceptive access.
  • Works on problems of moderate to complex scope that require review of various factors.
  • Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to determine appropriate action.
  • Networks with key internal and external personnel.
  • No supervisory responsibility, but may guide lower-level staff.

Technology to be used:

  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 10%
