OneWorld Europe is the Brussels-based, independent arm of OneWorld Sustainable Investments (OW) which in turn operates across Africa.
Both organisations operate in sustainable development-consulting and focus on adaptive development and resilience building within the context of changing climate and resource constraints (see www.oneworldgroup.co.za).
OneWorld’s four inter-related work programmes are: i) Valuing Resources – Advancing governance and sustainable financing for water, land-use, and biodiversity resource development; ii) Climate Change – Building and applying evidence of climate impacts for development, people and economies to inform inclusive policy strategies and financing solutions; iii) Green Transitions – Envisioning just transitions and transformational pathways for mobilising green and low carbon societies where all benefit from the gains, and; iv) Urban Resilience – Facilitating sustainable urban densification, mobility and municipal governance reform for inclusive cities that secure development gains and enhance the lives of all citizens.
Our clients and beneficiaries include International Cooperation Partners (ICPs), Governments in donor countries, and the regions we work in, transboundary institutions such as River Basin Organisations, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), continental and regional political, economic and trade communities and climate negotiation blocs in developing countries, as well as the private sector. We work at a science-policy-development interface and provide technical and policy advisory services to our clients and beneficiaries.
OneWorld currently seeks a European-based Senior Technical Advisor, preferably Brussels-based, to lead delivery of OneWorld Europe projects, interface with European government funding organisations, manage client and partner relationships, and generally contribute to the growth of the business.

Job Purpose
The Senior Technical Adviser acts as a Consultant, Technical, and Policy Advisor to OneWorld’s clients, funders, government agencies, and beneficiaries. This means providing ongoing scientific and technical, institutional development and capacity building, and global analysis on the key areas of focus in OneWorld’s work and translating this into regional and country needs-based strategies, policies and action plans. The Adviser will additionally be required to integrate, where appropriate, related activities and analyses with other areas of OneWorld’s programmatic work.
Reporting and Management Structure
The Senior Technical Advisor will report to the CEO and will be responsible for leading a small team of researchers, project managers/coordinators, and junior technical advisors.
Primary Responsibilities
Advisor on OneWorld projects as appropriate/needed across OneWorld’s four programmatic areas of work. This includes building and maintaining European partner relationships, interrogating existing research, identifying research gaps, leading applied research projects, providing the science policy interface, working with and leading multi-disciplinary teams, writing reports, research briefs and papers, and policy briefs, and business development proposals.

The Senior Technical Advisor will be required to:
Design, implement and lead / co-lead OneWorld projects
Co-lead OneWorld’s business development processes including client and partner relationships, opportunity identification, proposal development and project finance planning
Interface and maintain relationships with European government, funding agencies, and partner consulting firms,
Seek new professional opportunities to expand OneWorld’s reach,
Present at meetings and conferences from time to time, and publish research outputs
Regularly facilitate or co-facilitate project workshops
Lead and manage stakeholder engagement and participatory analysis processes
Technically support decision makers in applying project research and policy outcomes
Contribute proactively to OneWorld’s programme and project design and validate/refine OneWorld’s related programmatic approaches
Provide technical and strategic support for OneWorld’s business development efforts, particularly in the writing of proposals and project approach/methodology.
Provide thought leadership in specialised domain, demonstrated through thought pieces and content creation (for website, OneWorld thought pieces, etc.)


The following qualifications and skills set requirements apply:
A Masters-plus qualification + is required in the fields of Development Studies/Economic Development, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development or a related Social Science.
Proven track record in Development, Climate Change and Resilience, Climate /Environmental Finance research
Proven experience in Policy and Strategy Development analysis and advisory work
Proven experience in development business, responding to tenders and building client and partner relationships
Proven ability to deliver projects and programmes systemically
Excellent writing and presentation skills with ability to relay technical concepts and research in an easily understandable and relevant manner
Demonstrated ability to write publishable papers and reports
Knowledge, experience and understanding of ICPs, DFIs and private sector operations,
Policy analysis skills
English language fluency. French spoken fluency a major advantage. Spanish a useful advantage

Ability to work remotely as well as closely with a small office-based team

Remuneration for this position will be market-based and calculated on a cost to company basis. A basic or guaranteed monthly salary will be included as part of this package, while the incumbent will be able to top the monthly salary up on a quarterly basis. The latter will be calculated on a formula that includes revenue directly generated/contributed to by the incumbent for the previous quarter, either or both from contracts awarded to OneWorld Europe, and project milestones delivered and paid for by the project client(s).
